Arianny Cheong

Junior Division

Grande Valse Brillante in E flat major, op. 18

Arianny Cheong is an eleven year old aspiring classical pianist from Aurora Ontario. She began piano lessons at the age of four with her Instructor Lily Zhang who she still remains with. Arianny progressed quickly through each level within the RCM curriculum and is currently working towards completing her ARCT. Overall she has great passion for classical music and is also currently practicing cello. She also proactively seeks performance opportunities within her school through talent shows, large assemblies such as remembrance day ceremonies where she performed various suitable pieces to honor those who have fallen. Most recently, Arianny is the winner of the "Age Achievement Award - First place" of her respective age group at the time as well as "First place - Level 10 open age group" in the 2024 North York Music Festival. Adjudicator and event founder Ella Poret wrote, "Stylistic performance with well defined dynamics...technically competent and engaging performance!". In addition, Dr. Stephen Runge wrote, "Sensitive playing with beautiful shaping of melodies!". In her earlier years, Arianny has also won gold award in the Steinway & Sons piano competition as well as first prize in Little Mozart International Competitions. She is both excited and honored to compete with other talented pianists in the Junior Division of the sixth Canadian Chopin Piano Competition.
