Intermediate Division

Etude in A minor, op. 25, no. 11
Nocturne in F sharp major, op. 15, no. 2
Fantaisie in F minor, op. 49

Born in 2009, Boheng (Daniel) Lu began his piano studies at the tender age of four when he enrolled in a free Music Literacy Program sponsored by the City of Toronto. He is currently a student of Dr. Michael Berkovsky and was previously mentored by Hana Gurtlerova and Shuang Wang.

Captivated by the sound of the piano from his first encounter in the aforementioned program, Daniel immediately fell in love with the instrument. Since then, music has become an integral part of his life. In his pursuit of excellence in piano performance, Daniel has actively participated in music festivals and piano competitions, consistently achieving top rankings. He has earned opportunities to compete in the OMFA Provincial Finals three times, received a nomination for the Developing Artist Stream of the Canadian National Music Festival, and won First Place in the Crescendo International Music Competition, which led to an invited performance at Carnegie Hall in New York.

Aside from solo piano, Daniel has a passion for pushing the boundaries of piano performance. He has gained extensive experience accompanying a variety of ensembles and instruments, including bands, choirs, vocalists, violins, flutes, and drumlines.

In his free time, Daniel extends his love for music beyond the piano. He enjoys playing other instruments such as the guitar and flute, composing music, and singing songs. Additionally, he runs a successful YouTube channel, "Daniel Loves Piano", where he shares his music with the online community.

Daniel finds his greatest joy in bringing happiness and comfort to others through his music. He volunteers to play the piano for audiences in churches, hospitals, nursing homes, schools, and community centres. Last year alone, he dedicated approximately 150 hours to various volunteer activities, mostly playing the piano at community events.
