Carson Chen

Junior Division

Nocturne in E major, op.62, no.2 Impromptu in G flat major, op. 51, no. 3

Carson Chen, 9 years old, embarked on his piano journey at the age of 5, under the guidance of Dr. Olga Chichova. Over the years, Carson has made astonishing progress, emerging as a mature performer and had won several local and internal competitions.

At the age of 7, Carson had the opportunity to collaborate with Irvine Symphony Orchestra (LA, USA) playing Mozart’s Concerto No.12 in A major and was awarded the Global Outstanding Chinese Artists Association (GOCAA)’s Young Artist Award. In 2023, Carson enjoyed performing Rachmaninov and Chopin’s masterpieces at Carnegie Hall, New York City.

Carson has been awarded in several national and international competitions, in additional to local music festivals in Canada. Most recently in May 2024, Carson received Distinctions prize in the 31st International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for Children and Youth in Szafarnia Poland. Carson was the 2nd place winner in Age 7 Piano, Canadian Music Competition (CMC) in 2022 and 3rd place winner in Age 8 Piano, CMC in 2023; 1st place winner in Concerto Category in GOCAA International Piano Competition (USA) in 2022. Carson was also nominated to participate in OMFA (Ontario Music Festivals Association) over the last few years, and had won 3rd place in Piano Grade 8, 1st place in Piano Grade 7 and overall best of class in Piano Grade 3. Carson also enjoys playing duet with his friend, and they won Gold Star in Piano Duo category in the International Music and Stars Awards Competition in 2022.

Beyond his achievements, Carson is a dedicated young musician committed to sharing his love of music with others. He participates in charity concerts and community programs, using his gift to bring joy to those in need. Apart from Music, he enjoys playing hockey, baseball and reading.
