Frederick Zi Tian Huang is a Chinese Canadian music lover. He began to learn the piano when he was five and half. After half a year of studying with Professor Zhao Xiaodong, he attended a local piano competition and received a special prize. His study in China built up his solid technique skills. His teachers include Prof. Zhao, Xiaodong who was the head of music department in Jilin Normal University, Prof. Liu, Xingchen and Prof. Li, Qifang from the Central Conservatory of Music in China.
In 2014, he won first place in the US San Jose International Keyboard Festival-The first California Young Beethoven International Piano Competition.
He moved to Canada with his family when he was 11, first studied with Mrs. Bi, Meizhi for three years, and then studied with Mr. Younggun for 4 years. Frederick is currently in his first year studying at the Glenn Gould School with Mr. John O’Conor and Mr. Michael Berkovsky. He won first place in CMC in 2019 and the second place in 2022. For OMFA, he won first place in 2019 and second place in 2020 and 2023. He was awarded second place in 2022’s Oakville Chamber Orchestra Youth Concerto Competition and had the privilege of performing the first movement of Beethoven’s Fifth Piano Concerto with the Oakville Chamber Orchestra. He won first place in his age group in the OMNI competition in Canada in 2023. Recently he won the first place in 2024 NYCO competition. He attended the Orford Music Festival in Quebec during the summer of 2023, received insightful teachings from Prof. Daniel Shapiro, David Jalbert and Ronan O’hora.
In his free time, he loves to compose, practice martial art, walk in nature, watching movies and read philosophy books. His favorite pianist is Arthur Rubinstein.
