Giulianna Chen

Born in 2009, Giulianna Chen is a grade 10 student at Mulgrave School in West Vancouver, BC, Canada. At the age of 6, she began to take piano lessons with Ms. Cindy Liu and then with Dr. Sun Sung Kong of KL Piano Academy in North Vancouver, and she has been studying piano with both teachers ever since. At the age of 8, she won the Grand Prize for the 7 - 10 age group at the 60th Canadian Music Competition (CMC) in Montreal in 2018 and the 1st Place in Junior section of the 2018 Steinway Piano Competition in Vancouver. Some of her recent awards include: the 1st Prize in the Professional Group of the International Finals of the 3rd Vancouver International Piano Competition in 2024; The 1st Prize in the 2nd group (age 10-12) of the 29th Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition for Children and Youth in Szafarnia, Poland in 2022; and the 1st Prize in category “Piano Talents” in 2021 VI Krystian Tkaczewski International Piano Competition, and many more over the past six years from local, national, and international piano competitions. Giulianna was qualified for the 2023 Cleveland International Piano Competition for Young Artists in the US and for the 19th Ettlingen International Piano Competition 2024 in Germany . Giulianna is also involved in many charity concerts raising funds for hospitals and medical research foundations as well as performing for the seniors at nursing homes. At school, Giulianna plays drums in the school rock band and enjoys herself playing competitive badminton; she used to be on her school team competing in the senior school category when she was a middle school student, and she was awarded The Most Improved Player for two years in a row.
