Fourteen-year-old Verity Leung has been training in classical piano since age 5. Her playing has been described as “sensitively nuanced” and “artistically thoughtful” with “beautiful fluency and facile flair”. Her early studies were with David Vandereyk, and she currently studies with Wayne Weng, a Steinway Artist. She has participated in masterclasses with John Perry, Ilana Vered, Boris Slutsky, Larry Weng, Michael Esch and Tony Yike Yang.
Through her musical journey, Verity seeks not only to communicate the beauty and richness of classical music to her audience but also to enrich the community at large. In September 2020 during the pandemic lockdown, Verity released her debut piano CD album, Childhood Memories through the Ages, and raised approximately $25,000 for a charity in Vancouver serving vulnerable refugee claimants. She held the stage at TEDxYouth in 2022, where she rallied the community to act with empathy and stand in solidarity with those in need. In June 2024, Verity gave a solo piano charity concert, entitled In Veritate et Caritate, and raised over $21,000 to support refugee settlement.
Outside of piano and philanthropy, Verity is a passionate parkour practitioner, percussionist, and poet. Verity has a black belt in Taekwondo, and she practices intellectual sparring matches in the form of debate. She and her team took first place overall in the Tournament of Champions of the World Scholar’s Cup at Yale University in 2023.
