Yuxiao Ni was born in April 2011 in Kuwait and spent her early years in
China until the age of 11. She began studying piano at the age of five, quickly
excelling and winning numerous competitions. In 2022, her family relocated to
Vancouver, where she continued her piano studies under pianist Eva Yulin Shen.
In the past two years, Sophie has achieved remarkable success. In 2024, she won
second prize at the Gustav Mahler Institute Prague Piano Competition, first prize at
the Vivace International Piano Competition North American Final, first prize at the
SSP Sea to Sky International Music Festival by Steinway, and the Platinum prize at
the Berlioz International Music Competition.
In 2023, Sophie attended the Casalmaggiore International Music Festival in Italy,
where she participated in a masterclass with Professor Lee Kumsing. Committed to
giving back to the community, she frequently performs at nursing homes.
Beyond music, Sophie is also accomplished in martial arts and skiing, showing her
range of abilities and enthusiasm.
